The PreKindergarten Advocacy Handbook

The Early Childhood Strategic Group (ECSG) is a partnership of twenty organizations and individuals dedicated to creating a comprehensive and fully integrated early care and education system in New York City. Its members include advocates, policy consultants, education providers and other early childhood organizations. The ECSG has worked actively since 1997 to promote full implementation of Universal Prekindergarten as a step toward a more coordinated and well-funded system of early care and education in New York City.

The ECSG focuses on challenges to systems building and acts as a catalyst to promote greater cooperation between city agencies and between community-based programs and the public education system. The ECSG Resource Center implements the policy work of the ECSG by researching and documenting best practices in collaboration, by encouraging community-based programs to offer UPK, by developing policy briefs, publications and hosting forums.

The ECSG also works closely with the Center for Early Care and Education, a statewide partnership created to promote early learning opportunities statewide. The Center serves as an information resource that has helped launch the Winning Beginning NY campaign to promote early learning for all.

The ECSG and its members actively participate in the Child Care that Works Campaign, the Emergency Coalition to Save Universal Prekindergarten, and the Alliance for Quality Education.
